L.L.Bean is currently searching for a Manager of Packaging & Labeling to join the Supply Chain team located in Freeport, Me.

Position Purpose:

In this important role this person will oversees and sets the direction for the development, coordination, and management of all packaging and labeling materials that support L.L.Bean’s dynamic selling channels. Manages the Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN) Receiving team and is responsible for vendors’ ASN compliance. Participates in corporate-wide cross-functional project teams regarding changes of process and/or packaging or methodology for packaging and labeling to merchandise flowing the various selling channels. Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to packaging and labeling requirements.

This position collaborates with vendors to negotiate and influence the use of sustainable packaging materials in support of our corporate goals. Leads a team of EDI/Packaging Development Specialists who manage new product packaging from conception to approval and start of production. This team is also responsible for ensuring vendors ongoing compliance with the set packaging and labeling standards, including ASN data.

This position works closely with their leader to implement strategies and collaboratively establish goals that support Supply Chain Department and corporate objectives. Must have a proven record of executing work plans and driving for results in a variety of settings. Proven communication and teamwork skills are essential in this role, which operates in a cross-functional environment. In addition to being responsible for overseeing packaging development, this role contributes to projects with medium to high complexity and oversight, while also building upon their leadership skills.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the EDI expert as required and requested
• Assess product vendors for readiness to become active on EDI related to accuracy, packaging and labeling requirements, and all L.L.Bean standards
• Negotiate with vendors regarding packaging composition, timing, sizing, etc.
• Develop a business plan that supports Supply Chain’s overall goals and objectives
• Create department budget and administer dept. expenses within budget guidelines
• Coordinate workload inter-departmentally
• Evaluate the need for and lead process improvements
• Perform additional related responsibilities as requested
• Supervise assigned personnel
  • Make employment decisions/recommendations including wage and performance decisions
  • Establish performance objectives, appraise performance monitor team’s workload, and look for process improvements
  • Manage Personnel issues utilizing conflict resolution skills and company policy
  • Manage, develop, and empower employees to their fullest potential
• Participate in project teams across the organization as the expert for packaging and labeling requirements

Education Level: 4-Year Bachelors Degree

Years of Experience: 5+ years

Skills and Qualifications:

• Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to prioritize
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Computer systems expertise, particularly EDI/SAP/JDA/Manhattan/Adobe/MS Office
• Demonstrated knowledge of sustainable packaging, packaging design criteria
• Demonstrated knowledge of Federal and state regulations regarding packaging criteria
• Ability to effectively manage and execute projects of varying size and complexity
• Effective problem-solving ability and negotiation skills
• Working knowledge of industrial standard testing procedures (drop test, etc.)
• Strong people and team leadership skills
