Job Summary

Plans, and prepares distribution schedules and departmental workflows to establish sequence and lead time of distribution center operations to meet shipping dates according to sales forecasts or customer orders. Expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions; includes estimating.  Prepares production reports. Acts as main information & reporting resource for the Distribution team with 2-3 direct reports.

The planning supervisor demonstrates attention to detail & possesses critical thinking skills to produce accurate & insightful analysis. Responsibilities include analyzing performance focused on key business metrics, implementing new functionalities to automate processes (i.e. working on projects for continuous improvement) and ensuring the achievement of service levels for the different channels. The planning supervisor will work closely with different stakeholders in the organization (Sales, Corporate Distribution Planning, Operations, Transportation, Finance, Procurement Planning) to correctly convey priorities of the business. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist Distribution Manager and Associate Distribution Manager to meet goals, budgets and quality levels within the department.
• Develop, direct, and mentor Distribution Coordinators in areas of team building, positive communication, and leadership
• Select, train, and coach team members to maintain a successful, positive environment.
• Assists team and works with other departments to remove barriers and obtain resources to achieve all goals
• Maintain strong employee relations through various proactive formal and informal departmental communication strategies
• Troubleshoot and resolve daily issues in cooperation with Quality, Manufacturing, Sales, Customer Service, and Maintenance.
• Manage the plant continuous improvement program centered on driving improvements in cost, productivity, quality, team member involvement and morale.
• Consistently apply company policies and procedures.
• Manipulates data and builds KPIs to provide insights to leadership regarding different business matters
• Responsible for monitoring overall stock levels in the distribution center for rebalancing activities as well as suggesting and executing stock re-slotting and adjustment strategies.
• Participates to daily meetings with Operations in order to have a clear understanding of the priorities of work
• All other duties as assigned

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business management, or business administration preferred, or equivalent experience required.

Experience

5 + years experience supervising/managing distribution operations.  Knowledge of truckload, LTL, and parcel shipment methods is required.  Knowledge of Oracle WMS and inventory systems is required.  Experience with implementing and managing Lean Manufacturing, 5S Principles, safety requirements, and continuous improvement programs/projects preferred. Exposure to Six Sigma Principles and Green Belt certification is a plus.

Skill Requirements

This individual will have excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to handle multiple projects, as well as strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interface with a wide range of employees to meet departmental goals.  Logistics/carrier management experience is a plus. Strong mastery of Microsoft suite with a focus in Excel.

Work Environment

The standard shift is Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.  Must have the ability to work varying shifts and times throughout the year based on production needs.  Must have the ability to be on feet and interact with the distribution team when required. Requirements include the ability to stand for 8-10 hours and the ability to lift boxes up to 50lbs.
