Summary of Position:
Mercury Marine is looking for a mechanical engineer responsible for the design, analysis, specification, prototyping, validation, and production release of drive components within outboard and sterndrive propulsion systems for the recreational and commercial boating industry. Components can include a wide range of manufacturing processes including shift mechanisms, aluminum castings, injection molded components, shafts, and elastomeric seals to name a few. There will be opportunity for growth into gear component design, development, and related system level testing.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
You will become an integral member of an engineering team committed to delivering superior results.
Assist in achieving engineering objectives supporting the design and component testing of drive system components.
CAD (Creo) 3D model and drawing creation: specify the proper technical information in order to meet the component functional requirements
Build prototypes and develop test fixtures
Benchmark automotive and competitive component designs
Follow up and support mechanical design requirements for manufacturing and service
Resolve/troubleshoot issues: define problem, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions; solicit observations cross-functionally and review the production assembly line
Adhere to established project schedules and priorities
Adhere to Mercury company policies and procedures
Basic Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in design of marine propulsion system components. Experience with non-marine propulsion systems can be beneficial as well.
Demonstrated ability to lead projects
Understanding of typical analytical tools and usage
Understanding of manufacturing processes
Understanding of drive systems, gear nomenclature
Experience with Creo or other solid modeling software’s
