House In The Wood, a program of Northwestern Settlement was founded in 1910 with a simple but innovative and powerful concept, foster growth and responsibility in our children and young adults so that they can return to their communities as leaders. We do this by providing a safe and natural environment removed from urban life, introducing adult role models who counsel and exemplify these values and creating a positive atmosphere in which underserved youth can be themselves. With the ultimate goal of disrupting generational poverty, we deliver our concept through our Summer Camp, Outdoor Education, and Leader In Training programs.
