Atlantic Salmon Federation Seeks VP of Finance/Administration

The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) is on a mission to conserve and restore wild Atlantic salmon and their ecosystems. Founded in 1948, the organization is comprised of two charitable entities, Atlantic Salmon Federation (Canada) and Atlantic Salmon Federation (US). Our activities include scientific research, education, freshwater habitat restoration, and evidence-based advocacy.


ASF employs 34 people, maintaining a headquarters in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, and satellite offices throughout Eastern Canada and Maine. Our organization is growing. We currently operate on an annual budget of approximately $8 million CAD.

The position

ASF (Canada) is seeking a Vice President of Finance and Administration to oversee financial and administrative activities of ASF (Canada) and ASF (US). The Vice-President of Finance and Administration will report directly to the President and CEO. Responsibilities include:

  • Annual budget development and implementation.
  • Ensuring ASF complies with laws governing the activities of charitable organizations in Canada and the United States.
  • Ensuring ASF complies with by-laws set out by the ASF (Canada) and ASF (US) boards of directors.
  • Assisting with governance duties for ASF (Canada) and ASF (US), including liaising with various board committees and members of the boards in general.
  • Coordinating an annual audit of ASF finances.
  • Management of staff compensation and benefit programs.
  • Oversight of ASF assets, including capital spending programs to maintain real estate, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Supervision of finance and administration employees.

Qualifications and skills

  • The Vice President Finance and Administration must demonstrate significant, executive level experience and must possess a professional accounting designation.
  • Knowledge or experience of the rules governing charitable organizations is considered a valuable asset.
  • As a member of ASF’s executive team and management team, the incumbent should have well developed communication skills and the ability to contribute positively to policy and program discussions.
  • This is an English language essential position, but French language skills would be an asset.
