Position Summary:

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management (DFFM) is seeking a creative, highly-motivated individual to lead the Division’s Communication and Marketing Program. The Communications and Marketing Manager will be responsible for leading multiple division teams and driving innovative efforts to market and promote outdoor participation, recreation, and conservation across Florida.

Organization Background:

Florida leads the Nation in total anglers and economic impact from recreational fishing, and is widely recognized as the “Fishing Capital of the World.” Florida offers amazing outdoor opportunities and experiences to over 20 million residents and 100 million annual visitors. The Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management (DFFM) is charged with the conservation of world-renowned fisheries with over 8,000 lakes and 12,000 miles of fishable rivers. Anglers from around the world come to Florida for the chance to catch a trophy sized largemouth bass.

The DFFM’s TrophyCatch Program (www.TrophyCatchFlorida.com) is a citizen-science program run in partnership with industry leading companies like Bass Pro Shops to promote and conserve Florida’s prized trophy bass that offer anglers once in a lifetime fishing opportunities. The TrophyCatch Program serves to engage anglers, promote participation, and encourage conservation of the nation’s premier freshwater sport fish. TrophyCatch provides a digital framework for angler marketing, community, and events to participants across the state.

The Communications and Marketing Manager will be responsible for leading all DFFM marketing, outreach, and communication efforts to support the FWC and DFFM goals and vision. The Communications and Marketing Manager reports directly to the Division Director and is responsible for leading program efforts.

Position Responsibilities:

The Division of Freshwater Fisheries is seeking a skilled communicator with a proven track record to lead the division’s communications and marketing efforts. The ideal candidate will be personable, creative, professional, energetic, capable of handling multiple projects and deadlines, and have a passion for outdoor recreation. This position will also be responsible for developing an annual overview of division projects and accomplishments. Specific responsibilities will include:

Communications and Marketing Management:

  • Development and management of marketing campaigns utilizing social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram;
  • Print, video, and digital communication efforts and project management;
  • Division publication design and development;
  • Managing FWC website to provide dynamic content, engage consumers, and provide helpful information;
  • Maintain and support relationships with industry leading partners and sponsors including Bass Pro Shops, Mercury, Navionics, and other organizations committed to fish and wildlife;
  • Manage media communications and relationships;
  • Coordinate communication and outreach efforts to new and existing anglers/ outdoors participants;
  • Develop creative, relevant, content to engage consumers, increase awareness, and promote conservation.

TrophyCatch Program:

  • Develop and implement marketing plans for the program using multimedia and digital platforms that offer measurable results and valuable data;
  • Develop and enhance corporate partnerships through conservation and participation efforts.

Candidate Profile Experience:

The Communications and Marketing Manager should possess the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in marketing, business, merchandising, economics, international affairs, or communications;
  • Excellent oral and written communication;
  • Expertise in all social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram;
  • Expertise in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Website design skills preferred;
  • Strong leadership and management skills;
  • A passion for the outdoors!

Position Details:

  • Full-time, 40 hours/week;
  • Generally Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM;
  • Occasional weekend and evening work assignments;
  • Frequent in-state travel and occasional out-of-state travel;
  • Annual, Holiday (9 days/year), and Sick Leave;
